Documentary and Virtual Reality Premiere

Nik Kleverov, award winning director, has made a short documentary on Tony DeVarco and Mayako Nakamura called "Spirited Nature, Traces of Light". Inspired by the collaborative art works of DeVarco and Nakamura, Nik looks to capture the inspiration behind their works. This documentary will premiere at 7:00PM on June 17th, 2016 at The George J. Doizaki Gallery on the main floor of the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC) located in Little Tokyo, Downtown Los Angeles. 

A complementary virtual reality expierence presented by James Elder of Hexa360, will premiere following the documentary presentation. 

Opening reception for the art exhibit is Friday, June 17, 2016 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. The show will be open the public for one day, Saturday June 18 from 10am to 4pm.

La Stella Gallery will present a short documentary directed by Nik Kleverov featuring artist interviews (Tony DeVarco and Mayako Nakamura) and footage of each in their respective studios. Additionally, there will be a virtual reality experience presented by James Elder of Hexa360 with Oculus Rift that will take you into Mayako’s studio in Tokyo where she paints an Emaki that will also be physically displayed in the Gallery. Also featured in VR is Tony as he collects pixels at Sharks Cove in Santa Cruz and showing him working in his digital studio. 

”Spirited Nature, Traces of Light”will be available online in a 3D gallery space curated by Bonnie DeVarco, featuring all 22 pieces (using the Exhibbit online 3D gallery platform). During the exhibition attendees will be able to explore the work in the JACCC gallery and on the screen both physically and virtually. Merging storytelling and the liminal spaces between digital and physical art, we invite you to explore the fluid relationship of art beyond time, place and culture.

POP-UP GALLERY IN LOS ANGELES SUMMER 2016

The collaborative work of Tony Devarco and Mayako Nakamura will culminate in a stunning exhibition of twenty-two pieces being displayed in Los Angeles in June of 2016. Tony Devarco will be available for interviews and questions. Mayako will be transported to the exhibit virtually in a unique element adding to the interactive experience.
